It’s no secret that every time you apply for a credit card, your credit file is hit with an “Inquiry.” Too many of these and your score could quickly go downhill fast. But here’s a way to get pre-approved credit cards with the shopping cart trick, with companies that only do a “soft pull.”
This is a very easy process. You visit the store, sign up for their mailing list, and add something to the cart. As you begin the checkout process, and before you actually have to pay, you will see a pop up that says, “You’ve been approved for….” Sounds easy, doesn’t it?
Keep in mind that this only works with particular stores and I will give you those in a moment. Another tip is that you should clear your browser history before trying another store and don’t do too many in one day. Try only for cards that you will actually use.
While this is a great way to get credit cards, don’t go overboard. Your credit score is based on mortgages, loans, credit cards, etc. so having too many credit cards may not always be the best way to go, especially if you’re looking to make a major purchase down the road.
Now onto the good stuff…
This list of stores where the shopping cart trick has been known to work. Remember, sign up for the mailing list first, add something to the cart and proceed to the checkout. If you get a pop up, you will enter the last four digits of your social security number, name, address, and that’s it! If you don’t want to make the purchase, you do not have to finish the checkout process and you will still get the card. If it doesn’t work for you, then maybe you need to check your credit report and see how bad your credit really is. The flipside is, if it does work, you can now go shopping. Many stores off great discounts for first time shoppers who are newly approved for a credit card, but use your credit wisely.
If one doesn't work, try another.... Let me know how it works for you…
- Abercrombie & Fitch
- Ann Taylor
- Bath & Body Works
- Brylane Home
- Coldwater Creek
- HSN (you need to go to the every end of the check out process before it’ll appear)
- Jessica London
- King Size Direct
- New York & Company
- One Stop Plus
- Overstock (while it does ask for your full SSN, it should still be a soft pull). This card usually gives a nice high limit and automatic credit limit increases are regular.
- Sportsman Guide
- Total Rewards (reports of it not working on the new flashed base site, I’ve linked to the old site)
- Victoria Secrets
- Woman Within
Most people find Victoria Secrets one of the easiest cards to get using this method, I’ve also had a lot of success with Overstock as well. If you’ve gotten the shopping cart trick to work on any other cards then please let me know.
